The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the North-central, Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Matara, Hambantota, Gampaha, Mannar, and Vavuniya today. A 56-year-old man has died after a toilet pit exploded at his residence in Pilana, Nagashandiya, within the Habaraduwa Police Division. Police said the incident occurred last evening (12) when the victim reportedly attempted to extract gas from the pit by adding carbide. The pit exploded during the process, causing severe injuries. Residents rushed the man to the Galle National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on admission. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Pilana, Wanchawala. Mount Lavinia Police Headquarters Inspector H.T.M. Thushara has been immediately transferred to general duties in the Medical Services Division, Police said. A 34-year-old man died Sunday after being injured in a stabbing incident in Kudalgamuwa involving his brother, Police said. The victim was reportedly consuming alcohol with a group of friends at his residence when an argument broke out with his brother.
