The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the North-central, Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the districts of Matara, Hambantota, Gampaha, Mannar, and Vavuniya today. According to the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today, red alerts have been issued to 16 districts and amber alerts to 09 districts. The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.
