As per the latest situation report issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the death toll from the disaster situation triggered by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka has risen to 618, while 209 people remain missing. Kandy district is the most affected, reporting 232 deaths and 81 missing persons. A vehicle travelling on the Southern Expressway caught fire on Friday afternoon (05) after crashing into the rear of a bowser that was watering plants near the 160km post. The car, which was allegedly driven in an unsafe manner, collided with the bowser before bursting into flames. Several people, including small children, were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.
