Myanmar Air Force relief aircraft arrives in Sri Lanka with aid supplies

A Myanmar Air Force aircraft carrying humanitarian relief arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday night to support communities affected by recent floods and landslides triggered by severe weather across the country. The Y-8 transport aircraft landed at the Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Katunayake with relief supplies that include medical items, hygiene products and other essential goods. The consignment was delivered alongside a delegation from the Government of Myanmar. Chilaw Hospital to restore full services in stages

34-year-old shot dead in Dehiwela

A 34-year-old man has died after being shot in the A Quarters Ground area in Dehiwala this evening (06), Police said. According to police media, the victim sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila, where he succumbed on admission. Disaster death toll in Sri Lanka climbs to 618; 209 still missing

As per the latest situation report issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the death toll from the disaster situation triggered by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka has risen to 618, while 209 people remain missing. Kandy district is the most affected, reporting 232 deaths and 81 missing persons. Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts follow, with 89 and 83 deaths respectively, while a combined total of 63 people are reported missing from the two districts. Car catches fire after crashing into bowser on Southern Expressway

A vehicle travelling on the Southern Expressway caught fire on Friday afternoon (05) after crashing into the rear of a bowser that was watering plants near the 160km post. The car, which was allegedly driven in an unsafe manner, collided with the bowser before bursting into flames. Several people, including small children, were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. Motorists travelling behind managed to rescue the occupants, who have reportedly sustained minor injuries. Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident.
