IMF to discuss Sri Lanka’s fifth review again amid RFI request after disaster

ECONOMYNEXT – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will resume discussions to complete Fifth Review of the Sri Lanka’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) in January as the global lender considers the island nation’s request for Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) as the priority, the IMF said. Power outage disrupts digital payment services nationwide

LankaPay announced that several payment and digital transaction services are temporarily unavailable due to an unexpected power outage at its primary operating site. The disruption has affected interbank ATM transactions, interbank fund transfers through CEFTS, LPOPP government payments, JustPay, LankaPay Cards, GovPay and LANKAQR systems. The LankaSign Digital Certification Authority has also been temporarily suspended. In a statement, LankaPay said its technical teams are working to restore services as soon as possible and apologized for the inconvenience caused to consumers and stakeholders. Sri Lanka Landslide and Flood Deaths Rise to 627 After New Recoveries

Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center says 627 people have died and 190 are missing after the floods and landslides triggered by Cyclone Ditwah. The latest report, issued at noon on December 7, shows more than 2.17 million people have been affected across 25 districts. According to the DMC, a total of 611,530 families have been impacted. US Air Force C-130J aircraft arrive in Sri Lanka for Cyclone Ditwah relief

Two C-130J Super Hercules and airmen from the U.S. Air Force’s 36th Contingency Response Group arrived at the Katunayake Air Base today to support airlift operations for affected communities. All access roads to Nuwara Eliya reopened – Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madhura Senevirathna says that all access roads to the Nuwara Eliya District have been reopened. Several roads to the district had been closed due to landslides and the risk of further landslides following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. PHIs uncover flood-damaged rice racket, public urged to be vigilant

Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have uncovered a racket in which flood-damaged rice, unfit for human consumption, was being illegally processed and released to the market. PHIs apprehended the suspects in the Harispattuwa area in the Kandy District, seizing 1,000 kilograms of the processed rice, according to Pradeep Boralessa, President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Union. Boralessa said officers are monitoring for similar fraudulent operations across the island and urged businesses not to engage in such practices.
