Five brigadiers promoted to Major General in line with 76th Army Day

In line with the 76th Army Day celebrations, five brigadiers have been promoted to the rank of Major General. The recommendation for the promotions was made by Secretary of Defence Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyyikontha and Army Commander Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo. Sri Lankan-born researcher leads breakthrough in lung cancer treatment

University of Queensland scientist Associate Professor Arutha Kulasinghe, a researcher of Sri Lankan origin, has led a global study that could transform how lung cancer patients are treated. The research, published in Nature Genetics, has uncovered a way to predict whether patients with non-small cell lung cancer will respond to costly immunotherapy drugs such as Keytruda, which work for only about 20 to 30 per cent of patients. Defamation case: Court orders Ranjan Jayalal to pay Rs. 1 million to Patali

The Colombo District Court yesterday (10) delivered its verdict in the defamation case filed by former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka against Ranjan Jayalal, who was the General Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union at the time. Police officer remanded for assaulting lawyer at Mount Lavinia Court

A police constable was remanded until October 13 after allegedly assaulting an Attorney-at-Law within the premises of the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court this morning (10). The incident reportedly occurred after the lawyer concluded a court appearance and attempted to drive his vehicle out of the court premises.
