Talks advance on military land release in Jaffna-Palali area

Colombo court employee arrested for soliciting Rs. 10,000 bribe

An office assistant of the Colombo District Court was arrested today by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). According to a CIABOC statement, the suspect was taken into custody on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 in exchange for providing a certified copy of a case file. The arrest took place near the Keselwatte Police Station this morning. The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate. Court schedules next hearing in Ranil’s corruption case to January

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (Oct. 29) ordered that the corruption case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to be called again on January 28, 2026. The case, which marks the first time a Sri Lankan Executive President has been arrested and remanded over corruption allegations, was taken up before the Magistrate this afternoon. Wickremesinghe appeared in court as per summons issued in connection with the case filed by the Bribery Commission. Customs issue, not content dispute: Minister clarifies re-export of Qur’an consignment

Sri Lanka’s Seylan Bank net up 39.8-pct in September 2025 quarter

ECONOMYNEXT – Profits at Sri Lanka’s Seylan Bank grew 39.8 percent from a year ago to 2.89 billion rupees in the September 2025 quarter, amid lower provisions for bad loans, its interim accounts showed. Seylan Bank group reported earnings of 4.54 rupees per share for the quarter. In the nine months to end-September, Seylan reported earnings of 13.11 rupees on total profits of 8.33 billion rupees, which grew 26.2 percent. Japanese naval ship ‘JMSDF AKEBONO’ visits Sri Lanka

Minister Abeyratne awarded Emeritus Professor title by Kelaniya University

Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Prof. Chandana Abeyratne has been conferred the honorary title of Emeritus Professor by the University of Kelaniya. VFS issues statement after Sri Lanka audit report on e-visa deal

ECONOMYNEXT – VFS Global, a partner in a consortium that carried out online visa service for Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration has issued a statement after the island’s National Audit Office released a special report on the deal. CBSL rates : Dollar buying rate remains in Rs. 300 range

The Sri Lankan Rupee has appreciated slightly against the US Dollar today (29), compared to Tuesday, during which it touched the Rs. 300 mark for the first time since September 2024. Forged deed : Police seek public help to find wanted suspect

An investigation has been launched by three units of the Police Commercial Crime Investigation Division regarding the alleged preparation of forged documents related to a plot of land valued at Rs. 150 million. Body of 27-year-old found in Nuwara Eliya forest reserv

Police have launched an investigation into the suspicious death of a 27-year-old man whose body was discovered on Tuesday night (28) in the Kikiliyamana Reserve within the Nuwara Eliya Police Division. The deceased, a resident of Shanthipura, Nuwara Eliya, had been reported missing since October 8. Brothel operations disguised as massage centres raided in Mt. Lavinia

A special team from the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Unit raided two brothels operating under the guise of massage centres in the Ratmalana and Mount Lavinia junction areas on Tuesday night (28). 03 soldiers injured in an explosion during military training

Three army personnel have been hospitalized following an accident caused by the explosion of a hand grenade during a military training exercise. The incident reportedly occurred this morning (29) at the Maduru Oya Army Training Camp.
