Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Oct. 29) heard extensive arguments regarding the health condition of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the ongoing investigation into the alleged misuse of over Rs. 16 million in public funds during a visit to the United Kingdom. Deputy Solicitor General Dilip Peiris told court that six doctors had produced a medical report stating that Wickremesinghe suffered from a blocked artery and was treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital in Colombo. Enter Air to start regular flights to Sri Lanka from Oct. 30

ECONOMYNEXT – Polish charter airline Enter Air is scheduled to launch regular charter flights from Warsaw to Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) from Thursday (30), the government said and it will be the fourth airline to start operations to the island nation this week. Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited in statement said Enter Air will operate every ten days with flights on Thursdays and Sundays until mid-April 2026, coinciding with Sri Lanka’s peak tourism season. NPP MP denies allegations over Nuwara Wewa reserve land

National People’s Power (NPP) Anuradhapura District MP P.D.N.K. Palihena has denied allegations that removal of constructions within the Nuwara Wewa protected area were halted due to his land being part of the reserve. He called the claims “entirely false” and politically motivated. According to media reports, Palihena said he is prepared to vacate the land at any time if required and described the accusations as an attempt to discredit the government. Sri Lanka rupee weakens to 304.40/55 to US dollar, bond yields down

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee weakened to 304.40/55 to the US dollar in the spot market Wednesday from 304.10/55 percent a day earlier, dealers said while longer term bond yields fell. The rupee has fallen 302.55/60 from the beginning of the month. Meanwhile longer tenor bond yields eased amid confidence on good fiscal performance. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 closed at 8.20/28 percent down from 8.25/30 percent yesterday. A bond maturing on 15.09.2027 closed 8.75/83 percent down from 9.12/15 percent. India ends IVS contract, to handle visas directly

The High Commission of India in Colombo has announced that IVS Lanka, the outsourcing service provider for visa, passport, and consular services, will cease operations on October 31, 2025. According to an official notice, starting November 3, 2025, all visa, passport, and consular-related services will be handled directly by the High Commission of India (Colombo), Assistant High Commission (Kandy), and Consulate General of India (Jaffna). SLBFE warns of fake foreign job offer ads on social media

The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says complaints received by the Bureau regarding financial fraud incidents involving foreign job offers advertised through social media are increasing day by day. Investigations have revealed that the majority of these advertisements are fake and have not received approval from the Bureau. Sri Lanka stocks end firmer; foreigners buy

ECONOMYNEXT – The Colombo Stock Exchange rose on Wednesday in strong turnover with foreign investors mostly buying shares, data on its site showed. The All Share Price Index closed up 0.39 percent, or 87.90 points, at 22,777.12,  while most liquid S&P SL20 gained 0.12 percent or 7.54 points to 6,210.63. Foreign investors bought a net 372.5 million worth shares on Wednesday, data showed. Market turnover was 5.39 billion rupees. Most of this came from capital goods and utility industry stocks. Govt planning to arrest me before opposition rally – Gammanpila

Former Minister and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila has claimed that the government is conspiring to imprison him before the combined opposition’s planned “Nugegoda Rally” on November 21. Three deported from India arrested by TID

Three individuals who were deported from India and are allegedly connected to criminal activities in Sri Lanka have been taken into custody by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) at the Katunayake Airport. It was reported that these suspects were deported from India to Sri Lanka yesterday, via an aircraft belonging to an Indian airline. According to Indian media reports, the three individuals had illegally entered Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka. They had crossed into Tamil Nadu by boat approximately 15 days ago. Sri Lanka sells all offered Treasuries, more sold in 6, 12-m bills

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has all offered Treasury bills at Wednesday’s auction with the 12-month yield marginally rising by 02 basis points, data from the state debt office show. 2.84 billion rupees of 3-month bills were sold at 7.52 percent, flat after offering 12 billion rupees. 37.22 billion rupees of 6-month bills were sold at 7.90 percent, up 01 basis point after offering 30 billion rupees. 15.0 billion rupees of 12-month bills were sold at 8.04 percent, up 0.02 basis points after offering 15 billion rupees. India gifts RO Plant, Bus Shelter to Ampara District

An RO Water Plant and a Bus Shelter at Komari village in Pottuvil Division of Ampara district were inaugurated by the High Commissioner of India, Santosh Jha, on Tuesday (28).
