NPP councillor’s husband & son arrested with heroin

A principal of a primary school in the Eppawala area of Anuradhapura has been arrested with over one kilogram of heroin. Police said the raid was conducted by the Anuradhapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit based on information obtained from a 30-year-old suspect arrested a week ago in the Nallamudawa Road area of Eppawala. During the raid, officers recovered 1 kilogram and 185 grams of heroin hidden behind a hotel owned by the suspect in the Adagala area, Eppawala. Sri Lanka working on 67 Public Private Partnerships

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka is working on 67 public private partnerships in spread through several sectors, Chief Executive of the National Agency for Public Private Partnerships, Sukakshana Jaywardena said. A PPP law which provides a legal framework for projects is now with the legal draftsman and after revisions including with feed back from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. After Attorney General’s approval is obtained, the government will present it to parliament as soon as possible. Holiday tragedy: Four from Kiribathgoda drown in Deduru Oya

Four youngsters from Kiribathgoda were reported missing after being swept away while bathing in the Deduru Oya this afternoon, police said. A group of ten had reportedly been on a leisure outing when the incident occurred. One person was rescued and admitted to the Chilaw Hospital for treatment. Search operations carried out by the Chilaw Police, the Police Life Saving Unit, the Navy, and local residents have since recovered the bodies of the four victims. Sri Lanka takes part in Indian Ocean Tsunami drill

The Indian Ocean Tsunami Exercise (IOWAVE25) was successfully held in Sri Lanka today, in line with the World Tsunami Awareness Day. The exercise, conducted as a regional programme across coastal districts including Batticaloa, Jaffna, Galle, and Kalutara, aimed to train officials on standard operating procedures (SOPs) during a simulated tsunami generated by a forecasted earthquake. PUMA wins court order against counterfeit sellers in Sri Lanka

Global sportswear brand PUMA SE has secured four enjoining orders from the Commercial High Court of Colombo against four entities allegedly involved in the sale of counterfeit goods bearing the company’s registered trademarks, the Daily FT reported. The civil litigation was initiated by PUMA SE, represented by Sudath Perera Associates, against “SAFFANS,” and three other related entities under Sri Lanka’s Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003. 72,000 new appointments approved for Sri Lanka’s Public Service

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says approval has been granted to recruit 72,000 new personnel into the public service, with individual departments currently carrying out the recruitment process. New drug for high blood pressure from Sri Lanka

A medical research team from the Faculty of Medicine at the Ragama Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya has developed a new drug to help control high blood pressure, university officials said. The newly developed medication combines three types of antihypertensive drugs into a single tablet, replacing the commonly prescribed triple-pill regimen for hypertension patients.
