Tesla recalls nearly 13,000 vehicles

Tesla has issued a recall for 12,963 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in a battery pack component that could cause a sudden loss of drive power, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects certain 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles, where a malfunction in the battery pack contactor could result in drivers losing the ability to accelerate — heightening the risk of a crash. Miss Universe Sri Lanka reunited with crown lost in Bangkok taxi

Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2025, Lihasha Lindsay-White, has been reunited with her crown and dress after accidentally leaving them in a Bangkok taxi on Sunday, October 19. Lindsay-White reported the incident to Thailand’s 1155 Tourist Service Center after discovering she had left the crown and a dark green dress in a taxi near Siam Center Point in Pathumwan District. School student riding motorcycle killed in bus collision

A 17-year-old student of Bandaragama National School, who was riding a motorcycle, has died following a collision with a SLTB bus in the Kothalawala area, Bandaragama, today (22), police said. The victim has been identified as Lochana Lukshan, a Grade 12 student and student corporal who was active in several school groups, including the dance troupe. COPF approves increased levy on imported onions and potatoes

The Committee on Public Finance (COPF) has approved the government’s move to increase the Special Commodity Levy (SCL) on imported big onions and potatoes to ensure a fair price for local farmers during the 2025 Yala season. Colombo HC sets trial dates for Wimal Weerawansa’s corruption case

The Colombo High Court today (22) scheduled the trial of a case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, who is accused of unlawfully acquiring assets and funds amounting to approximately Rs. 75 million while serving as a government minister. School shoes : Govt to provide QR-coded vouchers for selected students

Cabinet approval has been granted to provide a pair of shoes for selected school students, Piriven students, and Sila Matha for the 2026 academic year, through a QR-coded voucher system. Gold prices in Sri Lanka take a plunge

Gold prices in Sri Lanka have dropped by nearly Rs. 60,000 since last Friday (17), it was reported. According to local gold merchants, a price drop of around Rs. 20,000 has been recorded today (22) alone. Sri Lanka sells less than offered treasury bills, yields flat

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has sold 39.62 billion rupees of Treasury bills, of an offered 70 billion, with yields flat across maturities, data from the state debt office showed. The 3-month yield was unchanged at 7.52 percent, with 10 billion rupees of bills offered and 4.47 billion sold. The 6-month yield was unchanged at 7.89 percent, with 40 billion rupees offered and 30.76 billion sold. The 12-month yield was unchanged at 8.02 percent with 20 billion rupees offered and 4.38 billion bills sold. 108.61 billion bids were received.
