Police seize two luxury buses owned by Backhoe Saman

Police have seized two luxury buses allegedly owned by “Backhoe Saman,” also known as Nedungoda Nirmala Prasanna. One of the buses was reportedly purchased two weeks prior to his arrest. Police said both vehicles were registered under another individual’s name. One bus is operating on the Monaragala-Colombo route, while the other is being used for tourist transport. Backhoe Saman was one of the five Sri Lankan underworld figures arrested in Indonesia in August. His wife, was arrested after arriving in Sri Lanka shortly afterwards. Education Ministry to take legal action over fake reform draft

The Ministry of Education says it will take legal action regarding a fake document circulating on social media claiming to be the draft for the proposed national education reforms. Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa stated that the alleged draft document, which is being shared as a 2026 education reform proposal, has not been issued or approved by the Ministry or any of its affiliated institutions. Vehicle import craze cooling off? CBSL responds

Vehicle imports are expected to return to normal levels in 2026, Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe said. Sri Lanka’s export sector continued to demonstrate resilience and steady growth during the period of January to September 2025, recording total earnings of US$ 12,986.52 million.  According to the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka (EDB), this reflects a strong 7 % increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024. Fake ID Scam: Man nabbed for posing as Bribery Commission official

A GPS technical manager of a private company was arrested yesterday (22) on charges of impersonating an officer of the Bribery Commission and attempting to influence government officials in the execution of their official duties. According to the Bribery Commission, the arrest was made based on confidential information received, which led to a raid and the suspect being taken into custody.
