Ambalangoda shooting : Police now say dead victim not a local councillor

The individual who was injured in a shooting reported near the Ambalangoda Urban Council premises today has succumbed to injuries.  Sri Lanka Police have clarified that the victim in the shooting is not a councillor, but a businessman. According to Police Media Spokesperson, ASP Wootler, the businessman, a seafood trader, was admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital following the shooting. ASP Wootler further said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the attack was carried out by a group that arrived in a white vehicle and fled the scene immediately after. Dollar rate in Sri Lanka today

The Sri Lankan Rupee remains steady against the US Dollar at commercial banks in Sri Lanka today (04), compared to Monday.  At Seylan Bank, the buying rate of the US Dollar has increased from Rs. 301.15 to Rs. 301.20, while the selling rate has also increased from Rs. 306.40 to Rs. 306.45. According to NDB Bank, the buying and selling rates of the US Dollar are unchanged at Rs. 301.25 and Rs. 307.75, respectively. A shooting incident has been reported near the Ambalangoda Urban Council premises today (04). According to the Police, one individual has been injured in the incident and has been admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital. The Police said the injured person has been identified as a member of the Ambalangoda Urban Council. Tsunami preparedness drill to be conducted in Sri Lanka tomorrow

An Indian Ocean tsunami preparedness exercise is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow across five selected locations in Sri Lanka, in line with World Tsunami Awareness Day. The Disaster Management Centre has requested the public not to panic or misinterpret the drill as an actual tsunami threat. This exercise, conducted under official UNESCO guidelines, will involve five Grama Niladhari divisions selected from the districts of Batticaloa, Jaffna, Galle, and Kalutara. Former Senior Advisor to PM Ranil Wickremesinghe arrested

A former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance and former Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister, Charitha Ratwatte, has been arrested by the Bribery Commission over financial misconduct. Charitha Ratwatte served in the positions during Ranil Wickremesinghe’s tenure as Prime Minister in 2015.  According to NewsFirst, the arrest comes in connection with a probe into the procurement of 50 temporary warehouses in 2015 in violation of standard procurement procedures.  It is reported that the temporary warehouse had been allegedly imported through the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation at a cost exceeding Rs. 90 million. 8 fatal road accidents reported across Sri Lanka

At least eight people were killed and several others injured in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Sri Lanka on November 3, police said. According to the Police Media Division, the incidents were reported as follows: Ragama A three-wheeler driver was killed when his vehicle was hit by a fast train at the Walpola railway crossing early Monday. His wife and mother were seriously injured and admitted to Ragama Hospital.
