Audit Trade Unions urge President to appoint Auditor General

The National Audit Office Trade Union Collective has requested President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to appoint acting Auditor General G.H.D. Dharmapala as the Auditor General of Sri Lanka.  In a letter to the President, the Collective pointed out that Dharmapala has been serving in his post for the last seven months and has proven his capability, to which the Speaker of the Parliament, the Committee on Public Enterprise (COPE), and the Committee on Public Accounts bear witness.  Pointing out that the government has yet to appoint an Auditor General, despite the position being vacant since April 2025, the Collective said it…

Two arrested for Rs. 36 million Wi-Fi antenna fraud

Two suspects have been arrested for defrauding over Rs. 36 million by promising to provide Wi-Fi antennas to a private firm. According to the Police, the suspects had defrauded Rs. 36,989,684 from the private firm and had failed to deliver the products as promised.  The duo were summoned to the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to record statements yesterday, after which they were arrested. Moulavi claims threats over participation in Opposition rally

An Islamic priest who had conducted religious activities for the recent Joint Opposition rally in Nugegoda has claimed receiving threats for his participation.  The Moulavi filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday, in this regard. Police have launched an intensified search for the Chairman of the Valachchenai Pradeshiya Sabha, who is reported to have fled the area following the removal of archaeological signboards in the Batticaloa District, an incident that sparked widespread public controversy after a video went viral on social media.
