Special Telco Relief Announced to Ensure Uninterrupted Communication During Crisis

All telecom operators in Sri Lanka have agreed to implement special emergency measures to support the public during the ongoing disaster situation, the Ministry of Digital Economy said. The agreement was arrived at during a special meeting convened by Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne with the participation of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the Tri Forces, telecom operators, and senior industry representatives. The Government has announced that Sri Lankans residing overseas and foreign nationals may contribute to relief efforts for those affected by the current disaster situation in the country. President Declares Key Services as Essential Amid Severe Weather Conditions

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an Extraordinary Gazette declaring a wide range of services as essential public services under the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979, in view of the severe adverse weather conditions currently affecting the country. A/L Examinations and School Reopening Postponed Due to Adverse Weather

Sri Lanka sells extra Rs2.2bn Treasury bonds after auction

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has sold 2,200 million rupees of bonds offered on tap at the average rates set at an auction last week, bringing the total of bonds sold in the week to 41.6 billion, data from the central bank’s Public Debt Department showed. The debt office sold a 1 June 2033 maturity bond (LKB02033F013) at a weighted average yield rate of 10.39 percent. On Thursday, 39.40 billion rupees in 2030 and 2033 bonds were sold. Sri Lanka sells extra Rs80mn Treasury bills after auction

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has sold 80 million rupees of treasury bills offered on tap at an average rate of 7.91 percent, the state debt office said, bringing the total of bills sold this week to 55.71 billion rupees. The debt office sold 6-month bills at 7.91 percent. On Wednesday (26) the debt office raised 55.63 billion rupees of 3, 6 and 12 month bills. Cyclone Ditwah 6 PM Update : 69 deaths, 34 missing

69 deaths have been reported, while 34 individuals remain missing, following the adverse weather caused by cyclone ‘Ditwah’ the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said. A total of 219,282 individuals from 61,175 families have been affected by the disaster situation caused by the cyclone. 266 safety shelters have been established across the country, accommodating 18,443 people from 5,890 families. ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee closed at 308.00/20 to the US dollar in the spot market Friday, weaker from 308.05/15 the previous day, dealers said, while bond yields remained broadly steady. The rupee was quoted at 307.80/95 last Friday. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted at 8.20/30 percent, down from 8.25/35 percent.
