The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) has issued an urgent appeal to the public to stop discarding flood-related waste, especially plastics, mattresses, broken furniture and clothing, into the environment, particularly near waterways and wetlands. A family, including a six-month-old infant, was injured in a road accident involving a jeep driven by Former Speaker and NPP MP Ashoka Ranwala in the Sapugaskanda area, police said. The head-on collision occurred on Thursday evening (11) in the Denimulla area of Sapugaskanda, according to the police. A 25-year-old woman travelling in the car, her approximately six-month-old infant, and a 55-year-old elderly woman sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital.
