Sri Lanka sells extra Rs4.1bn Treasury bonds after auction

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has sold 4,100 million rupees of bonds offered on tap at the average rates set at an auction last week, bringing the total of bonds sold in the week to 166.2 billion, data from the central bank’s Public Debt Department showed. The debt office sold a 01 July 2037 maturity bond (LKB01237G019) at a weighted average yield rate of 11.01 percent. On Monday, 162.1 billion rupees in 2030, 2033, and 2037 bonds were sold. New ICC ODI rankings released

Sri Lanka have maintained their position at No. 4 in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings, according to the newest update released by the International Cricket Council. India continue to lead the table with a rating of 124, followed by New Zealand (109) and Australia (106). Sri Lanka remain fourth with 103 rating points, ahead of Pakistan (100). Govt launches several tourism initiatives ahead of season

The government has launched several initiatives aimed at improving facilities and services for tourists ahead of the upcoming tourist season. The Special Task Force appointed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to take urgent measures for the promotion of the tourism industry met for the second time at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (14). Nanayakkara was arrested after recording a statement with the Bribery Commission today. Passenger dies after falling off private bus in Bambalapitiya

A 53-year-old passenger died after falling from the front footboard of a private bus traveling from Thummulla toward Kirulapone on Tuesday evening (Oct. 14), police said. The accident occurred near the BRC Grounds on Havelock Road, within the Bambalapitiya Police Division. The victim was rushed to the Kalubowila Hospital but was pronounced dead upon admission due to critical injuries. Police said the deceased was a resident of Bandaragama. Delay in Sinopec refinery project : New assurance

Vice Chairman of China’s Sinopec Group, Lv Lianggong, assured Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath, that construction of the new oil refinery in Hambantota will begin without delay. The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated slightly against the US Dollar today (15), compared to Tuesday. According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the buying rate of the US Dollar has increased from Rs. 298.84 to Rs. 299.07, while the selling rate has also increased from Rs. 306.33 to Rs. 306.56. Sri Lanka rice, coconut production up; fish, tea and rubber down in August: CB
