Man sentenced to 12 years for molesting 03 yr old girl

A father of one has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing a 03-year-old child.  It is reported that the 46-year-old man was sentenced after being found guilty of having sexually molested the child, who was his relative.  The Homagama Magistrate’s Court had issued the verdict and had also imposed a fine on the suspect.  The man is convicted of having lured the child under the pretext of riding a bicycle, sexually molesting the child near a well, and threatening to murder her if she disclosed the incident to her parents. Govt not backing LGBTQ tourism promotions : PM

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has clarified that the government was not in support of any special tourism promotions for the LGBTQ community.  PM Amarasuriya acknowledged that a letter had been issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman, Buddhika Hewawasam, in this regard. Electricity TUs intensify work-to-rule campaign

Swipe, Tap, Ride! Sri Lankan Bus Fares to go Digital

From November 30, 2025, commuters will be able to pay bus fares using bank-issued debit and credit cards on buses equipped with ticket machines, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced. Driving licence issue to be resolved by Oct. 18 : Minister

Police warn returning Sri Lankans of online car rental fraud

The Police have warned Sri Lankan citizens returning from overseas of financial fraud related to car rentals.  According to the Police, Sri Lankans returning from abroad are requested to remain vigilant when obtaining car rental services via online. They have been urged to verify details of the car rental company before making payments. The Police state they have received reports of fraudsters obtaining money, disconnecting their phones, and not providing the service. Engineers of Sri Lanka CEB raise concerns over reform implementation

The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated slightly against the US Dollar at commercial banks in Sri Lanka today (08 Oct), compared to Tuesday. Public consultations regarding the electricity tariff revision proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) conclude today. Four in custody over double murder in Hungama

Three suspects and a woman who allegedly assisted them have been arrested in connection with the double murder reported from the Waddigala, Ranna area under the Hungama Police Division, police said. The killings occurred early on October 7, when a man and a woman were found hacked to death inside a house in Waddigala. Lightning kills 44 year old in Beruwela

A fisherman was killed after being struck by lightning in the Maggona Diyyalagoda area under the Beruwala Police Division early on October 7, police said. According to initial investigations, two fishermen who had ventured into the sea for a one-day fishing trip were struck by lightning. Nearby fishermen in another boat rescued the injured men and brought them ashore, after which they were admitted to the Beruwala Hospital.
