ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee opened flat at 302.95/303.00 to the US dollar Thursday, while bond yields were broadly steady, dealers said. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 was quoted flat at 8.30/35 percent. A bond maturing on 15.09.2027 was quoted flat at 8.70/75 percent. A bond maturing on 01.07.2028 was quoted flat at 9.25/35 percent. A bond maturing on 15.12.2029 was quoted flat at 9.70/75 percent. A bond maturing on 15.12.2032 was quoted flat at 10.50/65 percent. A bond maturing on 01.11.2033 was quoted flat at 10.70/73 percent. Above 100 mm of rain expected in some areas today

Showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 pm today, according to the Department of Meteorology.  Heavy falls above 100 mm are likely in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva and North-western provinces. Multiple Fatal Accidents and Incidents Reported Across the Country

The Police said that several tragic incidents, including road accidents and drownings, were reported across different parts of Sri Lanka on Wednesday (15). A 17-year-old girl from Kithulgala died following a collision between a motorcycle and an Army cab in the Warakapola area. The incident occurred along the Alawwa–Ambepussa Road, leaving three others injured. In Dickwella, a 51-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a bus carrying garment factory workers at Dewsirigama. The driver of the bus has been arrested. Six Sri Lankans, including Ishara Sewwandi — the main suspect in the killing of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa — have been brought back to Sri Lanka after being arrested in Nepal. Sri Lanka’s paper SOE makes operational profit, repays power arrears
