Two Australian Women’s Cricketers allegedly Molested in India

Two Australian players, who are in India to play the ICC Women’s World Cup, were allegedly molested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, while walking from their hotel to a cafe on Thursday. The women cricketers sent an SOS notification as soon as the incident occurred. Security officers arrived at the scene upon receiving the information. Danny Simmons, the Australian team’s security manager, filed a complaint at the MIG police station on Thursday evening. Elderly Woman Sexually Assaulted & Murdered in Minuwangoda

A 71-year-old woman has been found murdered at her residence in Yatiyana, Minuwangoda, in what police have described as a brutal and disturbing crime. According to reports, the victim, who had been living alone since the death of her husband two years ago, was allegedly assaulted, raped, and killed by unidentified assailants. Police said the attackers had thrown chili powder on her face and strangled her to death. The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for strong winds, heavy showers and rough seas for multi-day boats in the Bay of Bengal sea area and the Eastern shallow sea areas of the island, valid for the next 24 hours starting at 12.00 pm today. Navy launches rescue operation for cargo vessel in distress

A cargo vessel experienced a technical fault and issued a distress call roughly 100 nautical miles south of Sri Lanka, prompting a rapid search and rescue operation by the Sri Lanka Navy. The vessel, named MV INTEGRITY STAR, reported a technical failure while navigating the southern waters of Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka said. Sri Lanka workers leaving for foreign jobs reduce in 2025 first half

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka workers leaving for jobs in foreign countries like the Middle East have eased from February 2025, central bank data show, amid a recovery in economic activities and wages. In January 2025, 25,873 persons officially left for foreign jobs, up from 25,149 in 2024. But in February 2025 departures fell to 22,271 from 25,737. In March 2025 departures were 21,552, down from 24,158. In April 2025, departures were 22,011 against 22,220 last year. In May 2025 departures picked up to 27,142 against 28,201 last year. SriLankan Airlines blames forex winds for financial dip

SriLankan Airlines has responded to media reports on its 2024/25 financial results, clarifying that the Group’s reported loss was largely due to a steep reduction in foreign exchange gains compared to the previous year. The airline reported a Group loss of Rs. 2,735 million for the financial year 2024/25, compared to a profit of Rs. 7,925 million in 2023/24. Fire delays Rajarata Rejini train by 02 hours

A fire broke out on the Rajarata Rejini train operating from Anuradhapura to Beliatta today. According to the Department of Railways, the fire originated in the engine compartment, and the cause has not yet been determined. Female constables return tourist’s wallet with Rs. 600,000 in foreign currency

Two female Police Constables attached to the Prime Minister’s Security Division have taken measures to hand over a wallet that was lost on the Thimbirigasyaya road in Narahenpita to its owner, a foreign tourist.
