Lawyer arrested for aiding ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’ murder suspect

Police have arrested a female lawyer on charges of aiding and abetting the murder of underworld figure ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’. Police said the suspect, who is a practicing attorney-at-law, is accused of assisting Ishara Sewwandi — a key suspect in the killing — by providing her with a forged lawyer’s identity card. Investigations revealed that the fake ID was used to mislead authorities and facilitate the suspect’s movements. Woman remanded for attempting to enter Court with a fake Gun

A woman who attempted to enter the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court premises carrying a fake pistol has been remanded until November 4, following her arrest and court appearance today (28). According to reports, the woman, identified as Deepika Mudali Herath, also known as Lakshmi, was apprehended yesterday (27) after court security officers discovered what appeared to be a pistol inside her handbag during a routine inspection. Sri Lanka records 35 imported malaria cases in 2025 – one fatal

Thirty-five malaria cases were reported in Sri Lanka up to September 2025, with one fatality recorded, according to Dr. Indiwari Gunaratne, Community Physician of the Anti-Malaria Campaign. She said that 83% of the patients were men, and 80% were Sri Lankan nationals who had contracted the disease abroad before returning home. “About 77% of these patients were infected with Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for cerebral malaria — a severe and potentially fatal form that can cause multi-organ complications,” Dr. Gunaratne explained. Leaking suspect footage to Media : Police launch inquiry

The Sri Lanka Police have launched a special investigation into the Police officers involved in the arrest of the suspect wanted over the murder of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, Lasantha Wickramasekara, it was reported.  According to the Police Spokesman, ASP F.U.
