Exhibition & peaceful gathering held to mark 35 years since the forced expulsion of Muslims by the LTTE

An exhibition and mural painting by Tamil and Muslim women from the North and East was held in Jaffna on Friday (31), to mark 35 years since the forced expulsion of Muslims from the North by the LTTE. No price change in Laugfs Gas for November

No free polythene shopping bags from today

The gazette notification requiring shops to charge for handled polythene bags comes into effect today (November 1). Accordingly, retailers must charge customers for such shopping bags when selling goods. The move aims to reduce polythene use and its harmful impact on the environment. Central Environmental Authority (CEA) Chairman Prof. Tilak Hewawasam said shops will no longer issue polythene bags free of charge from today. Sri Lanka vehicle imports reach US$1.2bn by Sept

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankans have spent 286 million US dollars on personal and commercial vehicles in September 2025, taking the total in the nine months to 1,204 million US dollars the central bank said. In September 227.5 million US dollars were spent on personal vehicles and 58.7 million dollars on commercial vehicles. Vehicle imports have brought big revenues for the government.
