What are the revenue proposals in Budget 2026?

The government has made 09 key revenue proposals in the Appropriation Bill for the 2026 financial year. Addressing the Parliament today, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake outlined the following revenue proposals; Imposition of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Social Security Contribution Levy on imported coconut oil and palm oil; It has been proposed to remove the Special Commodity Levy on imported coconut oil and palm oil, and instead implement the general tax structure, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Effective from April 2026. Budget 2026 : Rs. 11 Bn required to settle EPF, ETF arrears of 10 SOEs

Two French cable ships to be built in Sri Lanka

The Embassy of France in Colombo says two French cable ships are to be built in Sri Lanka for the benefit of global connectivity. According to the French Embassy, Global cable ship owner Orange Marine has chosen Colombo Dockyard PLC to build the 2 new cable ships. The two new cable ships will renew the fleet capacity of the global French reference in the installation & maintenance of submarine cables, it added. Sri Lanka ODI & T20I squads named for Pakistan tour

Budget 2026 : Allocations for road development projects

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says steps have been taken to recommence numerous road development projects that were suspended due to the economic crisis, resulting in various complications.
