Basil Suffers from Left Side Sciatica, Court Told in Case Update

Matara Magistrate’s Court was informed on Friday that former Minister Basil Rajapaksa had reserved air tickets to travel to Sri Lanka and later cancelled them, despite submitting medical reports claiming he was unfit for air travel. Deputy Solicitor General Lakmini Girihagama told court there was a serious suspicion that Rajapaksa was deliberately avoiding appearing before court, pointing to inconsistencies in the medical documents submitted on his behalf. The case relates to allegations that Rs. 50 million, said to have been obtained through unlawful means, was used to purchase one and a half acres of land at Browns Hill in Matara.…

Fixing attempt in Abu Dhabi T10: International Cricketer suspended

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), has charged USA player Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy for breaching three counts of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. The charges relate to the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 2025 in the United Arab Emirates. The ICC was appointed by the ECB as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for this tournament and as such is issuing these charges on the ECB’s behalf. MP Archchuna alleges a Death Threat in Parliament

Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan told Parliament today (21) that Puttalam District MP Faisal had threatened to kill him. How many Elephants in Sri Lanka : Latest Data revealed

Sri Lanka’s elephant population has recorded a notable increase, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Environment, with the minimum estimated number rising to 7,451 in 2024. The new data shows a steady upward trend when compared to previous nationwide counts, which recorded a minimum of 1,967 elephants in 1993 and 5,879 in 2011. Between 2021 and 2024 alone, the population has increased by 1,572 elephants, indicating significant growth in recent years. Sri Lanka’s SEC defers Softlogic trading suspension by month

NCPI-based inflation climbs in October 2025

The overall rate of inflation, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) on a year-on-year basis, has increased to 2.7% in October 2025.
