Midigama shooting : Another suspect arrested with weapons

The Police have arrested another suspect with weapons in connection with the attempted shooting targeting a hotel in Midigama on November 19.  The Western Province North Crime Division foiled a shooting attempt and arrested an individual with a T-56 firearm while waiting in a house in the Kapuwatte area. At the time, it was reported that the suspect had been with two other individuals, who had fled the area during the arrest.  Investigations by the Weligama Police led to the arrest of one suspect while hiding in the Ibbawala area yesterday. Media rights activists and opposition politicians have raised serious concerns over press freedom after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned Aruna newspaper Editor-in-Chief Mahinda Illeperuma for questioning over a report on police clearance procedures. SLBFE arrests suspects over fake Canada & Switzerland job offers

Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Special Investigations Unit has arrested two individuals over separate foreign job scams involving more than Rs. 69 million, following complaints from victims who were promised overseas employment. In the first incident, a retired estate manager was arrested in Warakapola for allegedly defrauding four individuals from Galle and Nikaweratiya by promising jobs in Canadian farms. The suspect had collected Rs. 13 million from each victim, totalling Rs. 52 million, but failed to secure employment as promised. An investigation has been launched into the removal of several signboards guiding visitors to archaeological sites in Batticaloa, Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senewi said.
