Probe Launched into Removal of Signboards at Archaeological Sites in Batticaloa

An investigation has been launched into the removal of several signboards guiding visitors to archaeological sites in Batticaloa, Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senewi said. Issuing a special statement, the Minister said the Department of Archaeology has been installing such signboards for many years as part of a general government project to identify and protect heritage locations. However, an organised group has removed these signboards from four archaeological sites in the area.
