A 21-year-old Canadian national has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake with a stock of hashish valued at over Rs. 180 million. A new gazette notification has been issued, revising the procedures related to the payment deadlines and fee collection for excise duties on alcohol production. An 81-year-old woman was found hacked to death inside a house in the Medawachchiya area yesterday. According to the Police, the deceased is a resident of Issinbessagama in Medawachchiya. Preliminary investigations reveal that the woman was residing with her son, who has a speech impediment, and had been attacked on the head with a knife by him on Sunday (26).
