Hizbullah accepts that he had lodged a complaint with authorities in Ghana over an attempted gold scam, he has clarified that he was not deceived or defrauded in the deal. 21 yr old Canadian arrested with Rs. 180 Mn worth of Hashish at BIA

A 21-year-old Canadian national has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake with a stock of hashish valued at over Rs. 180 million. According to reports, the suspect was apprehended by officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Division while attempting to smuggle the narcotics out through the airport’s Green Channel. The arrested individual is a 21-year-old Canadian national who arrived at Katunayake early this morning (28) from Dubai. Tax, Penalty deadlines revised for Alcohol makers

A new gazette notification has been issued, revising the procedures related to the payment deadlines and fee collection for excise duties on alcohol production. Effective from today (28), the gazette was issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Economic Development. The gazette notification states that every license holder must pay the applicable excise duty on or before the due date, in accordance with Section 22 of the Excise Ordinance. Son kills 81-year-old mother in Medawachchiya

An 81-year-old woman was found hacked to death inside a house in the Medawachchiya area yesterday. According to the Police, the deceased is a resident of Issinbessagama in Medawachchiya.  Preliminary investigations reveal that the woman was residing with her son, who has a speech impediment, and had been attacked on the head with a knife by him on Sunday (26).  The Police said the cause of the murder is yet to be determined, while the suspect has been arrested.  The Medawachchiya Police are conducting further investigations.
