Labour Advisory Council reconvenes, focuses on amendment to EPF Act

The National Labour Advisory Council reconvened on Thursday (30) at the Labour Secretary’s Office in Narahenpita, during which a discussion was held on proposing amendments to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Act. Health Minister urges Sri Lankan Specialist Doctors in UK to return

Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has requested Sri Lankan doctors who left for the United Kingdom to consider returning to Sri Lanka, highlighting the shortage of specialist doctors in the country.  Minister Jayatissa revealed in a statement on social media that he had made the request during his recent official visit to the United Kingdom. Mainly fair weather will prevail in most parts of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology. Misty conditions can be expected in some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning. Meanwhile, mainly fair weather will prevail in the sea areas around the island. 35-year-old woman dies after electric heater accident

A woman was killed after being electrocuted by an electric heater at her home in Rambukewela, within the Bokkawala Police Division, on Thursday night (Oct. 30), police said. The victim, aged 35, was a resident of the Rambukewela area in Mahanuwara. Preliminary investigations found that she had accidentally come into contact with the powered heater, resulting in her death. Bokkawala Police are conducting further investigations. GMOA temporarily suspends strike after call with Health Minister

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has temporarily suspended the island-wide strike scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. today, Oct. 31. In a statement, the GMOA said the decision followed a special discussion held on Oct. 30 with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Director General of Health Services, and GMOA representatives. The association said an agreement was reached to halt the Ministry of Health’s previously planned doctor transfers, which the GMOA claimed violated established procedures. Prince Andrew stripped of royal titles and residence

Buckingham Palace says Britain’s King Charles III has begun the “formal” process to strip Prince Andrew of remaining titles and evict him from the royal residence, the Royal Lodge. He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
