Sri Lanka tops South Asia in elephant deaths

Sri Lanka has recorded the highest number of elephant deaths in South Asia and is often cited by conservationists as having the world’s highest elephant mortality rate caused by human–elephant conflict, despite having a much smaller elephant population than India, wildlife officials said.
