Red alert advisory issued for severe lighting

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva, and North-western provinces, as well as in Matale district. Temporary localized strong winds may also occur during the storms. The department has advised the public to take precautions to minimize the risk of lightning-related injuries and damage. People are urged to seek indoor shelter and avoid standing under trees.
