Motion seeks to empower COPE to refer fraud directly to law enforcement

A motion to amend the Standing Orders pertaining to taking legal action against serious financial fraud or corruption being disclosed at the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) was presented to Parliament today (26). Bribery Commission arrests 03 officials in separate raids

A Rural Development Officer, an Office Assistant, and a female Security Officer have been arrested on allegations of soliciting bribes. According to the Bribery Commission, the arrests were made in relation to 02 separate raids conducted yesterday (25). New court decision on case against NPP Ministers

The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today rejected a request made by the lawyer representing the complainant to arrest Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe, and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal over an alleged fraudulent lease of a building in Dehiwala belonging to the National Workers’ Institute. Income Tax : Notice for all Taxpayers

The Inland Revenue Department has reminded all taxpayers to make their final income tax payments for the Year of Assessment 2024/2025 on or before September 30, 2025. The directive applies to individuals, companies, corporations, partnerships and other registered entities. According to the IRD, the final payment can be made through the Online Tax Payment Platform (OTPP) or at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon. 04 Wayamba University students remanded over ragging incident

Four third-year students of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in Kuliyapitiya have been remanded until 29th September after being presented before Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Mihil Chiranthana Sathurusinghe.  They were arrested by the Kuliyapitiya Police in connection with an incident where a second-year student was physically assaulted during a ragging episode, resulting in injuries.
