The Sri Lankan Police says the live hand grenades found in Modara yesterday were linked to investigations into several suspects in hiding with around 100 live hand grenades. According to the Police, a suspect with a T-56 firearm was arrested by the Kiribathgoda Police recently. A 55-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman have been arrested for allegedly defrauding around Rs. 100 million, by claiming to give freehold deeds under the ‘Urumaya’ national programme. According to the Police, the suspects were arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for financially defrauding 164 business owners in 2024. A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the central Philippines late Tuesday, killing more than 20 people and raising fears of considerable destruction.
