COPF reviews funding plan for Central Expressway section

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance reviewed expected loan funding for the Kadawatha–Meerigama section of the Central Expressway at its Sept. 30 meeting, chaired by Dr. Harsha de Silva. Officials from the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation said the 36.475-kilometer section is expected to be financed through a USD 500 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China, with the balance to be raised locally. Sri Lanka rupee flat against dollar, bond yields up

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s rupee closed at 302.45/55 to the US dollar on Friday, from 302.46/52 the previous day, while bond yields closed up, dealers said. A bond maturing on 15.12.2026 closed at 8.34/44 percent, up from 8.35/40 percent. A bond maturing on 15.02.2028 closed at 9.05/10 percent. A bond maturing on 15.12.2029 closed at 9.67/70 percent. Tamim Rahman to face High Court charges in LPL corruption case

The Police Unit for the Prevention of Sports-Related Corruption today informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that the Attorney General has decided to file indictments before the High Court against Tamim Rahman, the owner of the Dambulla Thunders team, in connection with an alleged match fixing incident during last year’s Lanka Premier League (LPL) cricket tournament.

Apple pulls ICE tracking apps after Trump admin request

Tech company Apple removed ICEBlock — the most popular app to track the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency — and similar apps from its App Store, it said on Thursday after it was contacted by US President Donald Trump’s administration. Wimal’s NFF stages protest against school corporal punishment ban

The National Freedom Front (NFF) staged a protest outside the Education Ministry in Battaramulla on Friday opposing the proposed amendment to the Penal Code that seeks to ban corporal punishment of children. LPL : Dambulla Thunders owner to face trial on fixing charges

The owner of the Dambulla Thunders franchise in the Lanka Premier League, Tamim Rahman, will face corruption charges in Sri Lanka’s High Court, officials said Friday. The Police Unit for the Prevention of Sports-Related Corruption told Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama that the Attorney General’s Department has decided to indict Rahman under the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act. Sri Lanka sells extra Rs1.92bn Treasury bills after auction

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has sold 1,927 million rupees of treasury bills offered on tap at average rates of 7.53 percent and 8.02 percent, the state debt office said, bringing the total of bills sold this week to 44.92 billion rupees. Justice Minister clarifies corporal punishment amendment not yet law

Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has issued a statement clarifying that the proposed amendment to the Penal Code (Section 19) concerning corporal punishment of children has not been enacted into law. The Minister said that while Parliament held a second reading debate on the Penal Code Amendment Bill on September 24, it was only a discussion and not a passage into law. He further noted that in order for such an amendment to take effect, a corresponding change would also have to be made to the Code of Criminal Procedure.
