Landslide early warning for several districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued a Level 1 (Yellow) landslide early warning effective from 6 p.m. on October 4 to 6 p.m. on October 5, 2025. The warning is in place for areas in the Badulla (Hali Ela, Ella, Badulla, Passara), Kurunegala (Narammala), Matale (Ukuwela, Rattota), Monaragala (Badalkumbura, Bibila), and Nuwara Eliya (Kothmale) districts, including surrounding Divisional Secretariat divisions. The NBRO said the alert follows rainfall exceeding 75mm within the past 24 hours and a soil water index over 100mm. Residents are advised to be watchful for signs of landslides, slope and rock failures, and ground subsidence.…

Bulletproof vehicle used by MR’s security detail returned

The bulletproof vehicle used for the security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been returned, his media spokesperson, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage, announced. Gamage said the vehicle was handed over yesterday (3) after the Presidential Secretary, on September 24, instructed that all official vehicles and the official residence of the fifth Executive President be returned under the Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Act. He added that the passenger vehicle used by Rajapaksa’s security officers was also returned, warning that the move has placed the former President’s life at risk. 5MW Solar Power Plant Declared Open in Galle

Power and Energy Minister Kumara Jayakodi today (04) declared open a 5-megawatt solar power plant in the Hiyare area of Galle. The project has been developed by PAP EGSS Solar Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Pan Asian Power PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s leading renewable energy companies. Sri Lanka average coconut prices rise 6.8-pct, more nuts offered

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka average coconut prices rose 6.8 percent at the weekly coconut auction on Thursday, Coconut Development Authority (CDA) data showed. The average price for 1,000 nuts was 138,581.96 rupees on October 2. However, CDA has continued to not declare the highest or lowest price for a nut at the weekly auctions. “Only the average price is there,” CDA officials told EconomyNext. The number of nuts offered climbed to 682,300 from 394,279 a week earlier, while nuts sold moved to 578,265 from 350,130.
