Lawyer Wanninayake declines settlement in incident with constable

Senior Attorney-at-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake has informed court that he cannot enter into mediation over the incident involving a police constable at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court premises last month. His legal team told court on Monday (17) that a formal investigation must take place instead. Submitting further reports along with six consolidated statements, the Mount Lavinia Police said both parties were summoned before the Mediation Board on November 8, but only the police constable attended while Wanninayake did not appear. ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s manufacturing sector expanded in October, registering a value of 61.0 on the Purchasing Managers Index compiled by the central bank, up from 55.4 in September. “This increase was broad-based, with all sub-indices contributing positively to this expansion,” CBSL said. ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s services sector expanded in October 2025, with a Purchasing Managers Index compiled by the central bank registering an index value of 66.0, up from 58.7 in September. Woman shot dead in Meetiyagoda

A woman (48) who was shot in a restaurant in Meetiyagoda tonight has died from her injuries, police said. According to police, the shooting occurred in a restaurant in the area, leaving the victim critically injured. She was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her wounds. A Sri Lankan social media entrepreneur has been linked to a network of anti-migrant Facebook pages targeting audiences in the United Kingdom, according to an investigation published by The Times and The Sunday Times.
