Extreme weather : Four updates on Kandy District

An emergency disaster situation has been declared in the Kandy District due to the prevailing adverse weather in the area, according to the Kandy District Secretary. Meanwhile, the death toll in the two landslides reported in two separate areas in Kandy has risen to 05. Two individuals were reported dead in the Pathahewaheta area, while three persons were reported dead in the Udumbura area, with their bodies having been recovered as of now. Three killed as car topples into canal in Sainthamaruthu

Three individuals from the same family have been reported dead after a car fell into a flooded canal in Ampara today.  According to the Police, the accident had occurred in the Sainthamaruthu area. The deceased have been identified as an elderly man, his wife, and his granddaughter.  It is reported that the accident may have occurred due to the inclement weather experienced in the area. Today’s CBSL official exchange rates

The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated further against the US Dollar today (27), compared to Wednesday. According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the buying rate of the US Dollar has increased from Rs. 304.20 to Rs. 304.22. Meanwhile, the selling rate of the Sri Lankan Rupee has increased from Rs. 311.75 to Rs. 311.78. Help sought to trace 2 men wanted over Grandpass disappearance

The Police have sought public support to locate two individuals wanted in connection with the disappearance of a man from the Grandpass area. ECONOMYNEXT – Farmers in several districts in Sri Lanka who changed cultivation practice with Chinese advice have boosted pineapple output 300 percent and export grade mangoes 90 percent, the Food and Agricultural Organization said. The National Tsunami Early Warning Centre says there is no Tsunami threat to Sri Lanka due to the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that occurred in the Indian Ocean off Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 10:26 am today (27).
