The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition politician, is the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Mochado was awarded for “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” the committee said. Last year, the Japanese peace organization Nihon Hidankyo received the award for promoting a world free of nuclear weapons.
