The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Northern, North-Central, Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces. Per the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today, red alerts have been issued to 15 districts, while amber alerts have been issued to 10 districts. The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused due to lightning activity.
