Lightning advisory : Red alert issued to 08 districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Southern and Uva provinces, and the Kalutara, Rathnapura and Ampara districts. Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm today, red alerts have been issued to 08 districts and amber alerts to 17 districts.  According to the Met Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in the said districts, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thunderstorms.  The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.
