A 23-year-old Indian national has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle in a stock of illicit cigarettes. Police Narcotics Bureau’s airport unit said its officers carried out a raid at the arrivals terminal on Wednesday night, seizing 44,400 sticks (217 cartons) of cigarettes brought into the country without paying duty. The suspect was taken into custody at the airport premises and is currently being questioned by the Narcotics Bureau’s airport unit. Investigations are continuing.
