In the past 24 hours, four people — including an eight‑year‑old child — have died in separate traffic accidents in several areas of the country, police said. Yesterday (08), the incidents occurred in the police divisions of Matale, Thanamalwila, Welikanda, and Kotawila. In Welikanda, in the Aselapura area on the Aselapura‑Kurulubedda road, a tractor struck an eight‑year‑old child. The child, a resident of Aselapura, was admitted to Welikanda Hospital and later died. On the Kandy–Jaffna highway near Diyabubula bridge, a three‑wheeler travelling from Matale towards Elwela collided with a pedestrian.
