The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested former Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Cyril Munasinghe on Dec. 12 in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure. According to the Bribery Commission, the arrest is related to suspected misappropriation of Rs. 36,001,344.94 between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012. The arrest was made under Section 23(a) of the Bribery Act, the Bribery Commission said in a statement. Officials from the Commission took Munasinghe into custody at approximately this morning.
