Firefighters in five-hour battle to douse blaze in Pettah

A major fire erupted in a third-floor shop on First Cross Street, Pettah, Colombo, engulfing the building in flames last evening.

The Colombo Fire Brigade deployed 15 fire engines and more than 50 firefighters to the scene, supported by bowsers from the Kotte and Dehiwala ndash;Mount Lavinia fire brigades.
