Deputy minister reveals consular services revenue for 2025

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra says that Sri Lanka’s consular services attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued to serve the public efficiently in 2025 while generating significant revenue for the country. In a Facebook post, the Deputy Minister said that from 1 January to 31 December 2025, the Consular Division and Regional Consular Offices processed 516,006 documents for 233,484 applicants through authentication services, earning USD 1.58 million. Sri Lanka December tourism revenue down 14.8 pct after survey change

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange revenue from tourism in December 2025 fell 14.8 percent from a year ago to US$308.6 million, the central bank said, quoting tourism promotion authority data. Drugs seized from luxury vehicle and hotel room in Negombo

A man travelling in a high-end luxury jeep was arrested in the early hours of January 9 near the Periyamulla–Eththukala railway crossing in Negombo, after police found a large quantity of narcotics in his possession. Dramatic rescue after tourist child falls at Ella

A foreign tourist child was rescued after falling from a steep cliff at Little Adam’s Peak today, authorities said. The child reportedly fell nearly 100 feet while attempting to take a selfie at the popular tourist attraction. Sri Lanka worker remittances up 43.2-pct to record high in December 2025

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s official remittances rose 43.2 percent to a record monthly high of US$879.1 million in December 2025, while the total in the last year also reached an all time peak of US$ 8,076.2 million from a year ago, central bank data showed.
