Plastic drinking and feeding bottles : New regulations announced

Sri Lanka will make it mandatory for all reusable plastic bottles and polymer-based feeding bottles to carry Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) certification from April 1, 2026, under a new directive issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA). According to the Extraordinary Gazette published on October 1, 2025, the directive prohibits manufacturers, importers, distributors, and traders from producing, importing, transporting, storing, or selling such bottles unless they meet the required SLS standards and display the official certification mark. Indian national arrested with smuggled cigarettes at BIA

A 23-year-old Indian national has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for attempting to smuggle in a stock of illicit cigarettes. Police Narcotics Bureau’s airport unit said its officers carried out a raid at the arrivals terminal on Wednesday night, seizing 44,400 sticks (217 cartons) of cigarettes brought into the country without paying duty. The suspect was taken into custody at the airport premises and is currently being questioned by the Narcotics Bureau’s airport unit. Investigations are continuing. Greta Thunberg among activists detained as Israel intercepts Gaza flotilla

Israeli naval forces on Wednesday intercepted a flotilla of boats attempting to break the blockade of Gaza and detained hundreds of international activists, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. The flotilla, organized by the Global Sumud coalition, set sail with about 40 vessels carrying some 450 people and humanitarian supplies. Activists said the boats were boarded in international waters roughly 75 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.
