Former Chairman of the Galenbindunuwewa Pradeshiya Sabha, Samantha Namal Wijeratne, has been arrested by the Assets Investigation Division of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). He was taken into custody over a complaint related to unexplained assets allegedly accumulated during his tenure as Chairman from 2011 to 2016. Investigators said Wijeratne had been informed to appear before the Commission to record a statement regarding the inquiry but had failed to do so.
