Above 75 mm of rain expected in some areas today

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northwestern and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts today, according to the Department of Meteorology. Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas.  Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere on the island after 1.00 pm. Fairly heavy falls of above 50 mm are likely at some places in these areas.  The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
