About 50 mm of rain expected in some provinces today

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces today, while fairly heavy falls of about 50 mm are likely in some places in Northern province.  According to the Department of Meteorology, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts after 1.00 pm.  The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
