A potential railway accident was narrowly averted at a level crossing in Ja-Ela on Friday after the quick action of a bystander helped save several lives. A van travelling from Ja-Ela towards Minuwangoda became stranded at a railway crossing when one of its wheels got stuck between the rails. At the same time, a train travelling from Negombo to Colombo was approaching the crossing.
