Police opened fire at a van that ignored orders to stop at Golumadama Junction in Ratmalana this evening. According to police, the van, which had travelled from Piliyandala via Moratuwa Katubedda, failed to comply with instructions from Western South Traffic Division officers around 5.25 p.m. Officers then pursued the vehicle and fired at its front and rear tyres near Belekkade Junction. The driver continued until the Ratmalana railway station area, where he attempted to flee and sustained minor facial injuries after falling. He was taken to Kalubowila Hospital and later arrested.
