The Consumer Affairs Authority says that over Rs. 25 million in fines have been collected within six months through legal action against vendors who sold bottled drinking water at inflated prices. The raids were conducted between April 1 and September 30, with 306 cases reported during the period. Most of the raids took place in the Colombo district. The Authority added that similar operations will continue. Recently, a Colombo-based bakery chain was fined Rs. 600,000 for selling a bottle of water at a price Rs. 20 higher than the approved rate.
