The Colombo District Court yesterday (10) delivered its verdict in the defamation case filed by former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka against Ranjan Jayalal, who was the General Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union at the time. Ranawaka had filed the case alleging that Jayalal made a false statement defaming him during his tenure as Minister of Power and Energy. The court ruled that the statement was entirely false and ordered Jayalal to pay one million rupees in compensation to Patali Champika Ranawaka.
